Summary | 1299: Cables in stock?
Description | Dear all, First of all compliments for this wonderfull product and the people who worked on it. It's very easy to connect one device to another. The system even detects what type of cable is used because of the type of port used. One thing I would like to have is that I can see weather I have the type of cable in stock. A use case: I use cables of different lengths to prevent a bunch of cables in the racks. It would be nice to see that when I go to put another server in, that I can check wether I have the right cables in stock. Off course this would require a confirmation when I connect 2 ports, that it might ask me wether to use cable x of which length. Would this be possible to implement? I can imagine not everybody is going to use it so there might be need for a 'enable stock check' function so only those interested could turn this on. Thanks in advance for all your feedback! With regards, Theo

Theo, could you explain how to tell which cables would be "right" for a given spare server? |
|
Hi, Sorry for the late response, i've been a bit busy. For example, a server port, type 1000base-T would normally be a network connection using UTP cables. All cables with at lease a RJ45 connector on one end would be fine. Port type AC-in would require cables with a C14 head on one end. AC-out would require cables with a C13 on one end. (A division should be made between shuko's, the regular wall outlets, that varies per country.) Does this answer your question? With regards, Theo |

I believe this is already implemented in 0.20.8 (the feature is called Patch Cables).
